Football: Leek boss keen to pick up points

Friday, November 14, 2008, 09:00

BLUES boss Wayne Johnson is targeting a return to winning ways this weekend with a Town squad unhampered by injury and suspension woes.

Johnson said: "Hopefully we will be up to full strength when we go to Stocksbridge on Saturday with Nick Ward, Carl Allan, Richard Bailey and Steve Hodgson all back in contention. And they could be joined by two new signings if negotiations go well this week."

Stocksbridge currently occupy a healthy seventh spot in the UniBond League Division One South – eight places above Leek with 20 points from 11 games. However, Park lost 3-1 at Rushall Olympic on Saturday and had midfielder Matt Telling sent off.

Saturday's match will also hold special significance for Blues keeper Steve Hodgson and Town old-boy Gary Ingham.

Hodgson, who could be in line for his first start of the season, was sold by Paul Ogden to Stocksbridge for a nominal fee in September 2004. And Stocksbridge assistant manager Ingham played for Blues in their Conference days.
